Davidson: ‘Gay people shouldn’t be protected from comedy’

Jim Davidson has defended his controversial stand up routines, saying that they aren’t offensive to his audiences.
The comedian said that he can understand why his gags come across as offensive when they are read later, but added that it would never be his attention to “upset an audience”.
Speaking to The Guardian, he said that he knows he will always be known as an “old school racist, sexist, homophobic comedian”.
Davidson said that he thinks it is a “sad world” if people are “protected from comedy”, and suggested that people should be more open to poking fun at themselves.
He continued: “On the other hand, if you’re saying gay people, black people, any people, fat people, ginger people should be protected from comedy, then it is a sad world when people can’t use common sense and courtesy and say if I take the piss out of that person he won’t like it. Maybe I will take the piss and he’ll love it.”
