‘Deadpool 2’ director addresses fate of character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Deadpool 2 director addresses the character’s fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fans of the MCU were delighted when Disney – who owns the rights to LucasFilm and the MCU – officially bought the rights to Fox’s entertainment assets meaning the giant conglomerate now owns the rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool.
And during San Diego Comic Con over the weekend, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the next phase in the MCU.
Films such as Black Widow, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse Madness, Blade and The Eternals were all announced and fans rejoiced at the ever-expanding Cinematic Universe.
Although no previously-owned Fox franchises were announced, Feige did tease that the Fantastic Four will be getting their own movie – hopefully a fraction better than the previous attempts.
But the announcement of the next phase omitted everybody’s favourite R-rated movie franchise, Deadpool – which stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular, pansexual character – and how the hit R-rated franchise would fit the child-friendly Disney Incorporation had led many to believe the films would have to be changed.
Now, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has addressed the character’s fate within the House of Mouse and told Uproxx: “It’s not for my lack of trying. And I also want to give – I’m just giving everybody their time.
“I know Marvel announced their slate and I think people were like, ‘Deadpool’s not on it’. I would never say never.
“And I think, obviously, he’s such a beloved character and it’s such a compelling world people want to go back.
“And I think they will find a way to do it. But I’m just being patient and let everybody take a breath and see how it works for them in the new Marvel, Disney world. And, hopefully, I’ll get the call. And that would be cool.”
With the announcement that the MCU is becoming more LGBTQ-inclusive, will we finally see the character embrace his pansexuality?
