Demi Lovato: ‘If a straight guy sang about experimenting there’d be uproar’

As her hit single about having a bit of girl-on-girl action, Cool for the Summer, continues to make waves on charts around the world, US pop starlet Demi Lovato has highlighted the hypocrisy of straight male singers not being able to make a similar record.
Speaking to Alan Carr as Chatty Man makes a return to Channel 4 tonight (September 11), the 23-year-old argues that they’d be “uproar” if one of her straight male contemporaries wrote a song about experimenting with boys, but encourages them to do so anyway.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong, like if a very popular male artist came and one of his songs came out and said, ‘I’m experimenting’, Lovato says.
“If a guy sang this song who was straight it would be such an uproar.”
The former X Factor USA judge goes on to say that she actually finds a bit of sexual open-mindedness sexy, adding: “The thing is, I actually find it more, I don’t know, there is a confidence to a man that would say ‘I’ve experimented with a man’ and not care.
“You know what I mean? I actually find that more attractive than somebody saying, ‘No no no, that’s so wrong’. You know what I mean?”
UH-HUH. WE DO DEMI.
Finally, asked by Carr if she’d ever gone ‘cool for the summer’ herself, she replies (coolly): “All of my songs are based off of personal experiences.”
Chatty Man returns to Channel 4 at 10pm tonight (September 11).
