Demi Lovato takes a stand for LGBT rights during Billboard Music Awards performance

After cancelling two shows of her co-headline Future Now tour with Nick Jonas in protest of the North Carolina HB2 law back in April, Demi Lovato once again showed support for gender inclusive bathrooms during her performance at the Billboard Music Awards last night (May 22).

DThe 23-year-old took to the stage to perform her hit single ‘Cool For The Summer’ whilst wearing a black mesh jersey featuring an image of a gender-inclusive public bathroom logo, which features a silhouette of a person wearing both a skirt and trousers.

Following the performance it was announced by GLAAD, who recently presented Demi with the GLAAD Vanguard Award in recognition of her work to advance equality and acceptance of LGBT people, that replicas of Demi’s outfit would be sold at the upcoming Future Now tour.

Demi said at the time of announcing the cancellation of the Future Now tour shows: “North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community’s most basic rights and protections. But we will not allow this to stop us from continuing to make progress for equality and acceptance.

“We know the cancellation of these shows is disappointing to our fans, but we trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law.”
