Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan says RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be an ‘eff you’ to the nation’s bigots.
The actress stars as Clare Devlin in the hit Channel 4 series and fans of the show will know that the character comes out at the end of the first season and lives openly as a lesbian in the second series.
Coughlan – who is an avid and outspoken supporter of LGBTQ rights – attended the premiere of the first ever UK version of the hit Emmy Award winning show.
While on the red carpet, the actress said the new show will be an ‘eff you’ to anyone struggling to accept LGBTQ rights.
She told GCN: “This show, it’s always got that political edge to it.
“It’s really like an eff you to all the bigots. It’s showing that you should be celebrating, you should be fabulous.
“It’s sending out the most positive message. If you can’t get on board with that then get in the bin.”
Coughlan then went on to say she hopes the UK version will ‘incorporate’ everything from the US and praised the show for all the ‘amazing things’ it’s done for the LGBTQ and drag community.
She continued: “I just hope it incorporates everything the US version brings.
“Obviously it’s such a massive success. It’s won so many Emmys, it has done a huge amazing thing for the LGBTQ community and the drag community.”
