Disney have announced plans for a live-action Mulan film.
Following the success of the company’s recent live-action adaptations of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and Cinderella, Disney have hired scriptwriters Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek to pen a story based on one of their most beloved characters, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The original film, which tells the story of a girl who – with the help of her sassy dragon sidekick – becomes one of China’s most respected heroines, snagged Disney a Golden Globe nomination, went on to earn over $300 million dollars worldwide and spawned a straight-to-dvd sequel seven years later in 2005.
More recently, the character has appeared in ABC’s fairytale-themed series Once Upon A Time, played by Sin City actress Jamie Chung.
