It’s official! Disney has finally found their Prince Eric for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Earlier this year, fans went wild when gossip site, DisInsider reported that Harry Styles was set to play the male lead in the upcoming live-action remake starring alongside Halle Bailey as Ariel aka The Little Mermaid.
However, the One Direction star passed on the opportunity but now, the studio has found their Prince and it’s none other than Postcards from London star Jonah Hauer-King, Deadline reported.
Although this marks Hauer-King’s biggest role yet, fans will recognise the 24 year old from the likes of BBC’s Little Women miniseries in 2017. He also played Harry in the BBC’s WWII drama World on Fire, which was renewned for a second season after the finale last weekend.
The cast also includes Melissa McCarthy as the witch Ursula, along with Javier Bardem as King Triton. Jacob Tremblay will voice Flounder, while Awkwafina is the voice of Scuttle and Daveed Diggs is voicing Sebastian the crab.
The new remake – one of many Disney live-action reboots in the works – will be directed by Rob Marshall with a script by David Magee.
It’s reported that the new movie will feature original songs from the 1989 classic as well as brand new songs from composer Alan Menken with lyrics from Moana creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
