Disney’s Aladdin is coming to the West End

After a hugely successful 18 months on Broadway, it’s been confirmed that Disney’s Aladdin will open in the West End next year.
The Tony Award-winning musical, which is based on the 1992 animated classic starring Robin Williams, will open at the Prince Edward Theatre on June 9, 2016, the BBC reports.
More than one million people have seen the Disney show since it debuted on Broadway last year, while James Monroe Iglehart won the Tony award for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical for his performance as the genie.
Aladdin features songs from the original film, as well as new songs by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Tim Rice, Howard Ashman and Chad Beguelin. The UK production is set to be directed and choreographed by The Book of Mormon’s Casey Nicholaw.
Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas will make his London stage debut as the genie, with the rest of the cast to be announced at a later date. Tickets go on sale to the public from November 23 with priority booking from October 23.
