Ncuti Gatwa makes Doctor Who debut in 60th anniversary trailer
The Sex Education star's first episode as The Doctor will air next year.
Following Sunday night’s explosive Doctor Who episode, fans got a glimpse at the new face of the show’s fifteenth Time Lord, Ncuti Gatwa.
As The Power of the Doctor concluded, Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration saw the surprising return of David Tennant, who played The Doctor from 2005-2010.
It’s not only Tenant who’s back, as Catherine Tate’s much-loved Donna Noble briefly appeared.
To quote Gatwa’s Doctor: what the hell is going on here?
Tate is confirmed to be back with Tenant for three special episodes in November 2023, marking the show’s 60th anniversary.
Sex Education star Gatwa will take over formally as The Doctor in an episode set to air during the festive season in 2023.
This whole host of surprises is only the beginning, showrunner Russell T Davies shared.
“If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way!” he teased.
Davies added that “the path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun!”
“And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”
With Tenant back, once the tenth but now the fourteenth Doctor, the teaser suggests he is on the run from Neil Patrick Harris’ mystifying, full-suited villain whose smile screams trouble.
The dramatic trailer concludes with Gatwa exclaiming: “Can someone tell me what the hell is going on here?”
Gatwa is set to be joined by Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney, who is playing a transgender woman in the show called Rose.
The BBC has confirmed that the 60th anniversary three special episodes will air in November 2023 and Gatwa’s episodes will arrive over Christmas 2023 – get the dates in your calendar.
