Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are all in talks to reprise their roles in a long-awaited sequel to the cult classic 9 to 5.
The three actresses starred in the hit 1980 comedy – which focused on three women trying to get revenge on their lying, misogynistic boss – and the film became an instant hit and was also turned into a stage musical based around Parton’s iconic music.
And now, while speaking at the Television Critics Association panel, Fonda confirmed a sequel is in the works and said: “My role is as an executive producer and I’m working with the writers, with Lily, and talking to the writers.
“Right now, Dolly, Lily and I are all intending to be in it.”
The film featured a lot of sexual harassment and with the #MeToo movement happening at the moment, the film has a particular significance to today and Fonda believe sexual harassment will drop because “guys are scared”.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “I’m sorry to say the situation is worse today.
“Today, a lot of the workforce [is] hired by an outside company, so if there’s a problem, who do you complain to? Who do you fight with?
“Plus with social media, the internet, you can be spied on very easily. I do think sexual harassment will tend to drop because guys are scared.”
Last year, the iconic threesome reunited at the Emmy Awards where Parton admitted she has been waiting for a sequel since the first one was released.
She said: “Personally, I have been waiting for a 9 to 5 reunion ever since we did the first one.”
