The co-writer for BBC’s new Dracula series has said the vampire is ‘bi-homicidal’ not bisexual.
The new three-part series – co-written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss – is set to air on New Year’s Day and after the trailer was launched last month, many have believe the iconic vampire has sex with Jonathan Harker, the solicitor sent to his lair in Romania.
However, Moffat has clarified the sexuality of the character – played by Claes Bang – and said he is ‘killing them, not dating them’.
He told The Times: “He’s bi-homicidal, it’s not the same thing. He’s killing them, not dating them.”
Moffat then told The Telegraph: “He’s not actually having sex with anyone. He’s drinking their blood.
“You might need to delete your Tinder if that is what you think. Dracula has always fed off men and women.”
In the original Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, the character drank the blood of both genders in the novel and in the multiple screen adaptations.
The new series will star Bang as Dracula alongside John Heffernan as Harker, Joanna Scanlan, Morfydd Clark and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett.
Dracula starts on New Year’s Day at 9pm on BBC1.
