Drag Race star Shangela to play Lady Gaga’s ‘drag mother’ in ‘A Star Is Born’
Halleloo, we're in gay heaven.
Shangela may have fallen at the final hurdle on All Stars 3, but the beloved drag queen is proving herself every bit a winner with a role alongside Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born.
Yep, the RuPaul’s Drag Race favourite will appear alongside Mother Monster in Bradley Cooper’s remake of the classic 1937 muscial drama starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, which is set to be released this October.
Speaking to Billboard, Shangela teased that the “memorable” role would see her playing a character who resembles Lady Gaga’s drag mother.
“I’m in drag, I’m kind of Lady Gaga’s drag mother, a bar owner,” the 36-year-old explained.
“I can’t give much more away than that. But it’s gonna be really fun, it’s not a giant role but it’s a good role that’s memorable.”
Shangela – real name D.J. Pierce, added that working alongside her idol Gaga was a “dream come true”.
“When you look up to someone, idolize them, and their journey and experience and how they work, and then you get to work with them and see they’re everything you dreamed”, she said.
“And she was everything I had ever dreamed she would be. Professional, kind, funny.”
Set for release this October, A Star Is Born tells the story of a fading movie star Jackson Maine (Cooper) who helps aspiring actress Ally (Gaga) realise her dreams while his own career spirals.
The latest incarnation of the movie has already been praised as “very good” by Barbra Streisand who starred in a 1976 remake with Kris Kristofferson.
A Star Is Born is set for release in the US on 5 October 2018.
