RuPaul’s Drag Race star Stacy Layne Matthews has revealed she is facing eviction from her home amidst housing law changes in the US.
The 37-year-old spoke out about the matter on Instagram last weekend, saying: “I been given a week to figure it out or go to court and explain why I’m behind.”
A federal eviction moratorium preventing residential evictions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 expired this week.
“I know everyone is struggling”
Stacy’s statement in full reads: “PLEASE READ before passing judgment. I havent said much about my situation but here it goes [sic].
“As we all know I been going through some health issues…. and not working as much and I have in the past. I know everyone is struggling.”
The queen – who shot to fame in 2011 on the third season of RPDR – continued: “Trust me I have helped many people get through tough times…. I thought I had done enough to stay where I am currently living. By myself in a 1 bedroom apartment….. but obviously I havent. I been given a week to figure it out or go to court and explain why I’m behind. I’ve never been evicted. It’s a scary situation.

“I know many may judge me for this post and that’s ok. Everyone is allowed to feel however they want. Just know if I didn’t need help I surely wouldn’t ask…. especially from people I didn’t know. With that being said…. if you wanna donate…. that would be greatly appreciated. I’m doing everything I can to get back to where I was….. so please refrain from negative comments and bad energy….
“Trust me I have beat myself up about this more than you will ever know. I love you. Thank you to those who believe in me enough to get back to where I was. I havent smiled in such a long time. Much love. Miss Henny!!!!”
The Biden administration has since issued a new, limited freeze that will remain in effect until 3 October. Stacy has not said whether this will impact her situation, but the aforementioned Insta post remains visible on her profile.
