RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Veronica Green has released her debut single – and it’s more than a little different to your typical drag queen track.
Eschewing pumping beats and comedy lyrics, ‘Stars’ is an emotional ballad influenced by Veronica’s love of musical theatre.
The track is out today (Wednesday 31 March) and you can check it out here.
“The perfect introduction to my musical world”
Veronica commented: “I think a lot of people will relate to this song, coming from small towns and villages and finding their place and acceptance in a big city.
“It’s a big musical theatre-style pop song that provides the perfect introduction to my musical world.”

Lyrics to the song include: “They tell you – you are nothing, they tell you – you are strange. A kid who longs for different is just ‘going through a stage’.
“In a small town with small people you get used to out of place, so your mirror becomes your world, your mirror keeps you safe.”
‘Stars’ is written and produced by Ian Masterson (alongside Hayley Sanderson) who has worked with Girls Aloud, Pet Shop Boys, Dannii Minogue and Sophie Ellis Bextor. Masterson is also the music producer of Strictly Come Dancing.
Veronica – who has appeared in shows such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat – famously nailed it during the Rats: The Rusical challenge on SE2 of RPDR UK, which wrapped earlier this month.
The star was forced to pull out of the show after testing positive for coronavirus, but has received an open invitation from RuPaul to appear in SE3.
