Drag Race UK vs The World’s Mo Heart urges people to reject ‘trash’ ‘conversion’ therapy

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World‘s Mo Heart urges people to reject “trash” ‘conversion’ therapy and for people to see the humanity in one another.
The US queen – formerly known as Monique Heart – finds herself in the final four ahead of the series finale, alongside the UK queens Baga Chipz and Blu Hydrangea, as well as fellow American, Jujubee.
Speaking to Tia Kofi and Attitude for Tea Time, in association with Taimi, the LGBTQ dating, and social network app, Mo discusses the reaction to opening up about her experiences with ‘conversion’ therapy.
Asked about the moment, for which she was much applauded, Mo says it’s been a “blessing” to hear people’s responses to her conversation with Blu Hydrangea and Janey Jacké.
She also says that she’s “blessed and honoured” to have had the chance to spread the message that “God loves and adores you” on such an international platform.
Commenting on the topical nature of the conversation, as the UK Government drags its feet over a ban on the abhorrent and widely debunked practice of trying to change someone’s sexuality or gender identity, Mo says to people thinking of going: “Don’t even waste the time.”
As for those who want their friends and family to go through ‘conversion’ therapy Mo asks: “Why are you trying to remove the thing that makes this individual different and unique away from that? Why are you doing that?”
She goes to ask where the success stories are of people who had ‘successfully’ gone through the practice, which Mo calls “traumatising and dehumanising”.
She calls it all “trash” and adds that she has friends who have gone through shock therapy.
“When you’re not seen as a person, as a human being, it is easy to dehumanise. So, I would first start, let’s first start seeing the humanity in one another, and then we can go from there as understanding the beauty and the blessing that we all carry as queer individuals and as a human rights just that level,” Mo sermonises.
