Duff: ‘My label never offered me Charli’s ‘Boom Clap’
By Josh Haggis
Hilary Duff has revealed that, contrary to reports, she was never offered the chance to record Charli XCX’s hit Boom Clap.
Charli XCX, 21, is currently sitting at number three on the UK iTunes chart with Boom Clap, and recently said that she wrote it for Duff, only to have the track turned down by the former Disney star’s label for “not being cool enough”.
“We sent over Boom Clap, but they came back and were like, ‘This isn’t cool enough for Hilary’. I thought I was a cool writer, but maybe I’m not. Hilary didn’t want my song. What a life-ruiner,” said Charli.
Duff has now responded to what Charli said, admitting that she is “obsessed” with the song, and would have jumped at the chance to record it had she known Charli had written it for her.
“I didn’t know that I had an option to have it,” Hilary told our friends at Popjustice. “It’s my favourite song on the radio right now.”
“I remember there was talk about my label trying to get us to write together and it was in New York and I was flying home so I didn’t have time to have a session with her. I am literally obsessed with that song and I didn’t know that it was an option for me.”
She added: “If she wants to give it to me now, I’ll still take it!”
Meanwhile, Duff has recently revealed that she has recorded a track written by Ed Sheeran for her first album in over seven years – click here for all the details.
After starring in Disney series Lizzie McGuire, Duff went on to release three studio albums, which all charted in the top three on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. In the UK, she’s best known for her top ten hits So Yesterday and With Love. Her last album, Dignity, was released in 2007.
Duff will debut her new single Chasing The Sun on July 29.
