‘Dynasty’ actress Kate O’Mara dies, aged 74

Kate O’Mara has passed away, an announcement from her agent this afternoon (March 30) has confirmed.

The 74-year-old actress died in a nursing home after experiencing a short illness.

O’Mara’s spokesperson said in a statement to the press today (March 30): “She was extraordinary, she had so much energy and vitality with a love for theatre and acting. A shining star has gone out, and Kate will be dearly missed by all who knew and have worked with her.”

O’Mara was famous for playing the role of Cassandra “Caress” Morrell in iconic ’80s soap Dynasty. She also played legendary villain the Rani in six episodes of Doctor Who.

During her five-decade acting career she appeared in many other TV shows including Bad Girls, Howards’ Way and Absolutely Fabulous. She also worked extensively in the theatre throughout her career.

Her final role came in a 2012 episode of ITV’s hit comedy Benidorm.
