EastEnders wins big at the British Soap Awards

EastEnders picked up eight awards at the British Soap Awards last night, including ‘Best Soap’.

The BBC One drama beat rivals Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors to the top award of the night, as the ceremony took place in Manchester.

Adam Woodyatt was named ‘Best Actor’ for his role as Ian Beale, while he and co-star Laurie Brett won ‘Best On-Screen Partnership’.

Linda Carter star Kellie Bright picked up the ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Dramatic Performance’ awards, beating rivals including Emmerdale‘s Natalie Anderson and Coronation Street‘s Simon Gregson in the latter category.

EastEnders live episode was also honoured with the ‘Best Single Episode’ award, as the ‘Who Killed Lucy?’ plot was named ‘Best Storyline’.

Hollyoaks star Jeremy Sheffield was named ‘Villain of the Year’, while Coronation Street‘s Sally Dynevor triumphed in the ‘Best Comedy Performance’ category.

BBC daytime soap Doctors took home the ‘Best Newcomer’ award, as Jessica Regan won for her role as Niamh Donoghue.

Emmerdale‘s Amelia Flanagan won ‘Best Young Performance’, while Donna’s goodbye was named ‘Scene of the Year’.

The late Anne Kirkbride was celebrated, with her husband David Beckett accepting the Outstanding Achievement award.

Phillip Schofield hosted the British Soap Awards, which will be broadcast on ITV at 8pm on Thursday (May 21).
