Ed Sheeran helps Rixton’s Jake Roche propose to Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson

The distant sound of wedding bells is ringing this morning, after Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson and Rixton’s Jake Roche got engaged yesterday (July 19) – all with a little help from Ed Sheeran.
Roche proposed to Nelson at Manchester’s MEN Arena during a sound check yesterday, after Sheeran drove five hours to Manchester to serenade the couple as a surprise for the Little Mix star.

Sharing a photo of the moment he got down on one knee on Instagram, Roche wrote: A year ago today I met her at Manchester Arena, so it was only right, with a little help from my friend, that this happened. Best day of my life”.
The son of Shane Richie and Coleen Nolan added he’d “never be able to repay” Sheeran for the gesture – though apparently he tried, with the Thinking Out Loud singer replying later: “Thanks for the KFC”.

Jesy is the second member of Little Mix to get engaged, after Zayn Malik popped the question to Perrie Edwards back in 2012. Their bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock said of Roche’s proposal: “Possibly one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed! Never before have I ever seen a couple so made for each other! I am so happy for you both you beautiful beings!!!”
Jake and Jesy first started dating at the Capital Summertime Ball in 2014.
