Eggheads panelist CJ de Mooi reveals himself as BBC star investigated over sexual assault allegations
After reports in January that an unnamed celebrity was being questioned by police on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old man, CJ de Mooi has made the decision to identify himself as the star in question.
The investigation began following a night out on January 23, in Glasgow, where de Mooi spent almost six hours in police custody and was questioned for 45 minutes.
De Mooi has denied all claims, but according to the The Mirror, the 46-year-old Eggheads claims the BBC has “turned against him” in the weeks since, dropping him from the programme and banning him from the corporation’s celebrity race at this year’s London Marathon.
Good morning.
As you can imagine, it’s going to be a tough day. I’m very upset but will make a statement later. Thank you for your support— CJ de Mooi (@cjdemooi) April 16, 2016
“He thinks his career is over and is demanding an apology from the police and the BBC,” a source told the paper.
“He’s also signed up to the London Marathon but he says he has been banned from the BBC’s celebrity race.
“He is absolutely distraught and thinks the BBC have it in for him.”
The BBC has denies de Mooi’s claims he was banned from taking part in the Marathon because of the investigation.
“The fact CJ hasn’t been chosen for the race is not a personal one”, a spokesperson. “He has not been banned. We choose 10 celebrities every year and rotate them.”
