Elité star André Lamoglia has been discussing filming his gay sex scenes in season five of the Spanish Netflix drama and revealed that he was initially worried about them.
The Brazilian actor plays Iván, a new student at Las Encinas and the son of a famous footballer. He sparks up a sexually tense friendship with Patrick (Manu Rios) that culminates in a passionate sex scene.
Speaking about the scenes the actor, formerly of Disney Channel Brazil, says he was “worried” at first.
In his interview with Hugo Gloss, he continues: “Mainly because I’ve never done a scene like that in my career before. So I kept thinking about the logistics of how it would be done.”
However, he reveals, it was more relaxed than he’d imagined.
“The team is reduced on set. We have an intimacy coordinator, precisely for those scenes, to make us more comfortable, more prepared, to bring more truth to the scene.
“So it was a lot easier to film than I thought. I felt really comfortable when I had to do them. I also feel that, as an actor, I’m a little protected by the character because Iván is there, not André Lamoglia,” he says.
He also denied being fully nude during the scenes joking, I’ll leave it to your imagination.”
“Just kidding,” he adds, “I didn’t do any scenes completely naked. We had protection, a sex cover. They call it a ‘thong’ or a ‘sock’, something like that.”
The actor also told Esquire Spain that any rumour he may have used a prosthetic fake penis on set was, “Lies, lies, lies. Everything is mine. All mine.”
He also said he didn’t use a body double.
“The truth is no. I didn’t even think to ask for it.”
On playing a part in an on-screen same-sex relationship (by the end of the series Iván tries to make things work with Patrick but never defines his identity) André tells GQ Brazil: “I think it’s important to normalize this form of love, in any case”.
Elité season 5 is available to stream on Netflix now.
The Attitude May/June issue featuring the cast of Heartstopper is out now.
