Euphoria star Austin Abrams has said he wants Jacob Elordi’s character, Nate, to get a boyfriend in the show’s third season.
Abrams, who plays Ethan on the hit HBO series, also says Elordi is the actor he’d love to do a scene with, although he’s not sure how that would pan out.
Asked what themes he would like to see being tackled by the show’s creators in the next season Austin says he’d like to see “Some happiness” and “for someone to be happy.”
“Maybe he needs a boyfriend”
In an interview with The Nerds of Color ahead of the season two finale, Austin continues: “I would love Nate to like… I don’t know, maybe he needs a boyfriend or something nice. [Just one episode.] Yeah, just something like that, maybe even a fantasy episode, where he goes on a nice date and has a picnic or something.”
Given how Nate’s relationships with Maddy, Cassie, and Jules haven’t exactly been the best, we’re not sure how this would pan out for a hypothetical boyfriend, but maybe it’d work…
Austin also says he would love to do a scene with Jacob but that he doesn’t know “what that would look like”.
Reminded that getting involved with Nate is tricky Austin adds, “I know, bad idea, but I wanna see… I don’t even know what that interaction would look like. That’d be such a weird interaction, especially after doing the play. I don’t know, I just wonder how he’d react to my character.”
In a recent episode, Ethan performed a dance number in a play thought to reference Nate’s possible queer-ness.
As for his own character, Austin says his character’s recent break up with Kat is “a real moment of growth” for him and that looking ahead he hasn’t any idea what he wants for his character story-wise.
“Sam (Levinson – the writer) always surprises me. So hopefully, there’s something there, but he [Sam] always just surprises me way more than something I could think of.”
