Ex-Westlife star Markus Feehily reveals “intimidating” homophobic abuse

Former Westlife singer Markus Feehily has revealed he was once forced to flee a pub after being subjected to vile homophobic abuse.
Markus Feehily has revealed how he first encountered homophobic abuse while having his photograph taken with a fan.
The former Westlife star, whose debut solo single is out now, told The Sun about the “intimidating” incident which occurred in Dublin.
“A man asked to take a picture of me then four of his friends crowded round yelling, ‘What the f**k are you doing? Why are you having a photo with him – you gay? You queer!’,” he told the paper.
He added: “We left quickly, the fear kicks in. I was shocked.”
Feehily, who publicly came out in 2005, said that he believes much more needs to be done in order to crack down on such “upsetting” incidents of homophobic abuse.
“It would be a mistake to think it’s over. Things are far from where they need to be,” he said.

Markus’s single Love Is a Drug is out now.
