Exclusive | Check out the LGBT films competing for this year’s Iris Prize – WATCH
By Will Stroude
Cardiff’s Iris Film Festival – also known as the ‘gay Oscars’ – brings together LGBT films from all over the planet, with the winner receiving £30,000 to create their next film in the UK.
Recently promoted to ‘A’ list festival status alongside Cannes and Sundance by BAFTA, the Iris Prize Festival is one of the most important LGBT cultural meets in the world.
It’s back in just over one month, and we’re thrilled to exclusively premiere the trailer for the films in the run-up for this year’s award.
35 films with battle for prize, which is the world’s biggest for LGBT short film. Meanwhile, 15 British shorts will battle it out in the Best of British category, two of which – Dawn and The Balcony – have also been nominated in main award.
Sound-tracking the main trailer is rising British musician These Brittle Bones – real name Chris Jones – who was born in Swansea but has spent his school years with his family in Singapore. Just 17 years old, he’s been releasing music since his early teens and has made numerous appearances in Singapore and last year supported brilliant queer artist Perfume Genius.
Each of the films featured in the trailer will be screened throughout the festival, which takes place in Cardiff from October 12-16.
