Exclusive | Erasure’s Andy Bell unveils video for new solo single ‘My Precious One’
By Will Stroude
Erasure’s Andy Bell is back with a brand new solo album Torsten The Beautiful Libertine, and we’re thrilled to debut the video for lead single ‘My Precious One’ ahead of the record’s release next month (March 4).
The album sees the legendary singer readopt the ‘Torsten’ persona from 2014’s concept album Torsten The Bareback Saint, while the nostalgia-filled new track sees the age-defying, polysexual character yearning for loves lost and gently warning lovers anew about the romantic scars he still carries from the past.
“For me, it reminds me of a Northern soul song from years ago,” Andy says. “In some ways its related to [former single] ‘Weston-Super-Mare’. It seems to have the same kind of feeling. It feels like a dusty, organic follow-up to that track”.
The 51-year-old adds: “I love my Torsten, even more now that he is becoming slightly unhinged – unraveling before our very eyes! I don’t believe that his spirit will ever be broken though; for all his lives & lovers & losses, the songs from The Beautiful Libertine have a healing quality and a deep resonance that make you realise that he is putting everything into perspective and coping… just!”
Torsten The Beautiful Libertine is set to follow in the footsteps of Andy’s last album, with an accompanying stage show of the same name – though this time on an even bigger scale.
Featuring songs from the record and a script inspired by the character and stories he tells, the show will play at the Above The Stag Theatre in London from March 2-27, starring Andy himself as well as est End star Peter Straker and Lana Pillay. For more details visit abovethestag.com.
Torsten The Beautiful Libertine is out 4 March. You can pre-order the album from cherryred.co.uk.
