Exclusive: Is 28 Barbary Lane set to come under threat in Netflix’s ‘Tales of the City’ reboot?
Attitude takes a world exclusive look at the set of new series in our new June issue - and the signs are ominous...

Almost two decades after the last TV instalment of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, the groundbreaking LGBTQ television series is set to burst back into our lives on Netflix on 7 June.
The new 10-episode run will see Mary Ann Singleton (Laura Linney) return to San Francisco after 20 years away, as she reunites with Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis) and a host of series newcomers played by the likes of Ellen Page, Looking‘s Murray Bartlett, and Girls actress Zosia Mamet.
As ever, the cast of colourful characters are set to converge on the open and accepting setting of 28 Barbary Lane – but it seems that this time around, the fight might be on for the very existence of the iconic dwelling itself…
In the brand new June issue of Attitude – available to download and to order globally now – we’re granted a world exclusive behind the scenes look at the new Tales of the City, as Laura Linney takes us on a guided tour of the set in New York – and there are some unnerving hints as to what the series might hold.
As the 55-year-old actress takes us around the beloved apartment complex, Attitude spots a worrying sign outside which reads ‘Notice of Demolition for Barbary Lane’. Gulp.

Sadly, Linney isn’t going to give up any further details as to the ominous prop – but it certainly would look like the stakes are going to be higher than ever this time around.
“Because this has been such a part of my life for so long, there’s something that does feel very much like coming home,” Linney says as she takes us around the set.
“It’s always heartbreaking when they take it down. I remember when the first one went down, I was devastated.”
Well, lets just hope that whatever these 10 episodes of Tales hold, 28 Babary Lane won’t be getting taken down for good. That really would be devastating…
