Move over Queer Eye’s Fab Five, because Drag SOS‘s Family Gorgeous are coming to save the UK, one high heel at a time.
Set to kick off on 25 June, Channel 4’s new six-part makeover series will see five of Britain’s very best drag queens travel the legnth of country to transform the lives of ordinary Brits through the power of drag – and we’ve now got an exclusive first look at the glitter-filled proceedings in the form of the show’s brand new trailer.
Drag SOS will see drag queens Cheddar Gorgeous, Anna Phylactic, Liquorice Black, Tete Bang and Lill will take members of the public on a voyage of self-discovery each week, as ordinary folk find out how drag can help them become bigger, bolder versions of themselves.
After a week immersed in the glittering world of the Family Goregous, participants will show off their new-found fierceness with their own drag performance in front of friends, family and a home crowd.
“Whether you’re male, female, straight or gay, old or young, drag is all about finding your most glamorous route to self-confidence,” says head of the family Cheddar Gorgeous.
“We all have a past, our own stories and drag is the most fabulous way to celebrate ourselves. People have come to us for all kinds of reasons, from bereavement to poor body image, drag is all about establishing identity and putting it centre stage.”
Episode one of Drag SOS, which will air on 25 June at 10pm on Channel 4, will see the queens travel to Dover to meet three Brits hoping that drag can change their lives, both inside and out.
They include 21-year-old student Nico, who’s been struggling with her body image since suffering mental health problems at university; single mum-of-two Abby, who hasn’t been near the dancefloor in 15 years; and 55-year-old Shawn, who was nominated by his budding drag artist son Owen in the hope that the pair might be able to find some common ground.
We can feel the tears of pride coming already. Check out the trailer for Drag SOS below:
