Ezra Miller is in talks to star alongside Eddie Redmayne in Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it has been revealed.
According to Variety, the 22-year-old We Need to Talk About Kevin actor is in the running to play the secondary male lead in the upcoming movie, which will be penned by JK Rowling and directed by David Yates.
The exact nature of Miller’s character Jacob is unknown, but it’s being speculated that he could serve as the film’s primary antagonist.
Set in New York roughly seven decades before Harry Potter’s saga starts, Fantastic Beasts… is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name and follows the adventures of its author, ‘magizoologist’ Newt Scamander, played by Redmayne.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling explained of the film.
Miller – who starred alongside Harry Potter alumnus Emma Watson in 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower – identifies as queer, and has previously spoken about his relationships with both men and women.
As well as being cast as The Flash in Marvel’s upcoming Justice League movie, the young star will soon be seen playing an inmate in psychological dram The Stanford Prison Experiment, and also features alongside US comedian Amy Schumer in new romantic comedy Trainwreck.
