Felicity Huffman has some moving words for newly-out Charlie Carver
By Will Stroude
The messages of support have been flooding in for Desperate Housewives star Charlie Carver following his decision to come out publicly as gay in a series of moving Instagram posts last week (January 12), but none have more touching than the one he’s received from his former onscreen mother, Felicity Huffman.
The pair starred opposite each other as Lynette and Porter Scavo on seasons 5 to 8 of the hit ABC comedy drama, and Huffman proved that any residual maternal feelings have lasted way beyond the show’s wrap three years ago after posting heartfelt tribute to the 27-year-old on Facebook.
“Dear Charlie,” she wrote. “I love you. I admire you. I applaud you. You make me happy to be human. You make me proud to be an actor.
“Love your TV Mom, Lynette. And your real life friend, Flicka.”

Carver, who has since gone on to star in MTV’s Teen Wolf and LGBT drama film Michael (in which he infamously participated in a rather steamy threesome scene with James Franco and Zachary Quinto), admitted in his coming out message that he previously feared that revealing that he was gay could damage his budding Hollywood career, despite the fact he came to terms with his sexuality at the age of 12.
“After having the privilege of playing a range of characters, gay, straight and otherwise, I realize this is not the case,” he wrote.
“So now, let the record show this – I self-identify as gay. And does that really matter anymore?
“As a young man, I needed a young man in Hollywood to say that… I owe it to myself, more than anything, to be who I needed when I was younger.”
