First clip of Jake Shears performing songs from ‘Bent’
By Will Stroude
The first clip of Jake Shears performing his own musical arrangements from the LA stage revival of seminal gay play Bent has been released.
The former Scissor Sisters frontman plays 1930s Berliner and gay man Max in the tale of LGBT persecution under the Nazis, in a role made famous by Sir Ian McKellen in London’s West End, and later tackled by Clive Owen in the 1997 film adaptation.
Seen shirtless and with full make-up, Shears is singing Streets of Berlin – the song he wrote with Lance Horne for Bent, with lyrics by Sherman.
Directed by Moisés Kaufman, Bent will open July 26 and run until August 23 at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
