Frozen’s Elsa has finally come out as gay! Or, at least she has in new sketch courtesy of Saturday Night Live.
Last weekend’s instalment of the NBC comedy show saw out and proud star Kate McKinnon play the famous Disney princess in a ‘deleted scene’ from Frozen 2.
The skit played on ongoing fan calls for Disney to make Elsa the coporation’s first openly gay princess, with McKinnon’s Elsa wandering lost in the woods as she declares: “Hello? Is anyone there? Anna? Kristoff? Olaf? I’m gay? Is anyone there?”
After being discovered by Cecily Strong’s Princess Anna Anna, she adds: “I don’t know whether we’re heading North, South, Gay, or West.”
Mocking Disney’s apparent refusal to include LGBTQ themes in a series where they’re supposed to believe that a young princess has the magical ability to freeze thing at will, McKinnon’s Elsa tells Strong’s Anna: “You have a fulfilling heterosexual marriage at the age of 18 and I’ve just spent two whole movies playing with snow.
“Both are equal and good.”
She adds: “In Frozen 3, I can just freeze my eggs.”
Later, the pair send up Elsa’s lack of romantic storylines in a reworked version of Frozen anthem ‘Let It Go’, with Anna singing: “Elsa, it’s ok you see. We all know, we all know, we’ve all known since you were a tween. When you dressed at Brienne of Tarth on three separate Halloweens.
“I don’t care, what Disney says the Twitter storm rages on!”
Elsa closes with a final quip: “The lack of romantic interest doesn’t bother me any way…”
