Gay Mormon musical ‘Facing East’ is coming to London
By Will Stroude
New musical Facing East is coming to London for one night only, for an exclusive concert performance in aid of Pride in London and Stonewall.
The event at London’s Lyric Theatre on June 22 will be hosted by the Wicked and Ab Fab star Harriet Thorpe, and will feature Rebecca Lock, Alasdair Harvey, Peter DiCesare and Michael Vinsen.
Based on the play by Carol Lynn Pearson, the new production has been reworked as a musical by David Rigano and Mark-Eugene Garcia, and this month’s concert will be a rare opportunity to experience the score ahead of its first fully-staged production in 2016.
Facing East follows an upstanding American Mormon couple who unexpectedly meet their gay son’s partner whilst dealing with his death. When they’re forced to face a reality long ignored, they must balance their beliefs with their emotions and make peace with this stranger in order to make peace with their loss.
Announcing the concert, producer Nathan Gardner said: “We’re delighted to be able to present our show in London, and with such an incredible cast and team. We believe that theatre can make a difference, and it’s an honour to be presenting FACING EAST in support of Pride in London, and Stonewall.
“We’ve always wanted it to be the show that gives back, and it’s a privilege to be able to support these two organisations that do so much for the LGBT community.”
Tickets are now on sale from the Lyric Theatre box office, by telephone on 0844 482 9674, or online at FacingEastTheMusical.com
