Gay sex galore in opening episode of Versailles – but viewers left unimpressed by show
BBC Two’s new period drama Versailles managed to cause a stir in its opening few minutes last night (June 1), featured four sex scenes – including a gay one – in the first seventeen minutes.
However, it seems like that wasn’t enough to keep people interested.
People took to Twitter to voice their opinion and it seems that majority were more interest on the incredible amount of hair on display than the actual sex itself.
Everyone on #Versailles has bloody amazing hair HOo boy.

The gay brother does have the most magnificent hair. #Versailles

But naturally, there are people who didn’t like the hair.
So much hair!! The shower plug holes in #Versailles must be one of the darker parts of French history.

And we’re not sure we want to imagine this one…
I feel like I’m watching 90 Johnny Depps all shagging each other and bonking their mothers. Weird! #Versailles

Then people criticided the show for its clunky dialogue.
You can tell that #Versailles isn’t a porn video because the dialogue is too clunky.

#Versailles is dreadful, no character, no atmosphere, all the men are ugly, acting is stilted, dialogue is dull
— Stephanie (@szai1000) June 1, 2016
And when the sex scenes did come on, no one seemed to understand what was actually happening…
So much androgynous fucking. Can’t tell the straight sex from the gay sex for all the hair! #Versailles

Just take a look below and judge for yourself:
One person found it all so confusing that he wanted digital name badges for the sex scenes!
Watched #Versailles last night. If BBC could digitally add name badges (except in sex scenes) it would help us follow the story.

Then we have this scene that got rather creative with an orange…
But Versailles thought that wasn’t enough and decided to give the Queen rather unexpected scene all of her own…
Bloody hell, 25 mins into #Versailles and we’ve had 2 straight and 2 gay sex scenes, murder, and a dwarf up the Queens skirt. My eyes

Looks like the BBC didn’t enjoy it either as it mixed the airing days up.
@BBCTwo Continues next Wednesday folks, not Thursday. Our bad. #Versailles
— BBC Two (@BBCTwo) June 2, 2016
Eventually though, word got round to Alexander Vlahos who plays Phillippe I, Duke of Orleans and he was pretty disappointed.
Feeling slightly disheartened this morning, but must remember we gave the world something new, and it seems they don’t know how to take it.
— Alexander Vlahos (@vlavla) June 2, 2016
But never mind, Vlahos! We managed to find someone person who liked it!
In the first 5 min a straight and gay sex scene love this one already! #Versailles @BBCTwo

Whether you liked it or not, Versailles returns to BBC Two next Wednesday at 9.30 pm.
