One of the world’s most famous gay stars turns the tables on a homophobic tabloid in a new satirical thriller by a former journalist. Exposé takes readers into the murky world of the UK’s no.1 daily paper, The Daily Ear, as TV golden boy Adam Jaymes starts to expose the private lives of the tabloid’s top team.
“The Daily Ear has used celebrity exposés to become the world’s most successful daily paper and left a trail of shattered lives in its wake,” said author Paul Ilett.
“But reporters have secrets too. And what better way for Adam Jaymes to reap revenge than to do to the staff at The Daily Ear what they’ve been doing to everyone else for decades?”
Touching on dozens of real-life issues, including the treatment of gay people in the media, the novel keeps readers guessing who at The Daily Ear is next on Adam Jaymes’ hit list and what deep, dark secrets is he about to expose.
“Adam Jaymes is a successful, popular and happily married gay celebrity and so represents the complete antithesis of The Daily Ear’s traditional values,” Ilett said. “It makes his relationship with The Daily Ear more adversarial and also shows how out of step some parts of the media remain when it comes to changing social attitudes to gay people.”
Luckily, real life reporters are enjoying the book too. The Sun newspaper even gave Exposé a four-star rating and called the novel a ‘fantastic debut’.
“Although many of the characters at the Ear are pretty appalling, no one is a complete villain,” said Ilett. “Everyone has some redeeming quality. Some readers have told me they were surprised their loyalties became split as they read the book, and they actually felt some sympathy for the tabloid staff. But I think it just makes for a more entertaining read.”
Exposé is available in paperback and for Kindle from Amazon.
