Ricky Gervais is working on a new film focusing on his character David Brent.
The character, who was the focus of the hit series The Office, will be seen working as a sales rep 15 years after his redundancy from Wernham Hogg.
Life on the Road will feature Brent embark on a self-financed UK tour as he continues to follow his dream of becoming a rock star.
Brent heads on a tour believing the film will be like “Scorsese shooting The Rolling Stones”, but finds that life on the road is not so glamorous.
The press release for the film reads: “It turns out to be a ‘where are they now’ documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales. Tragic.”
The UK series of The Office ran for two-and-a-half years between 2001 and 2003, and spawned a successful US adaptation, as well as other international editions.
Life on the Road is being developed with BBC Films, and will enter production will begin in the UK in 2015.
