Ghostbusters: First trailer for all-female reboot arrives

By Will Stroude

After a year of anticipation, the first trailer for Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot is finally here!

Bridesmaids‘ Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy have reunited to lead the new supernatural fighting force, alongside Saturday Night Live comedians Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

The trailer sees paranormal researcher Abby Yates (McCarthy) and particle physicist Erin Gilbert (Wiig) team up with inventor Jillian Holtzmann (McKinnon) and subway worker Patty Tolan (Jones) to after an outbreak of supernatural activity sends New York City into chaos.

Fans will be pleased to see that the film pays homage to the 1984 original, in which Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson played the ghost-hunting quartet.

Despite the throwbacks to the original series in the form of the Ghostbuster-mobile and team’s proton packs however, Feig has been keen to point out that the film is a stand-alone re-boot rather than a sequel. We caught up with the director last year to find out more about the eagerly-anticipated new film – read it in full here.

Ghostbusters is set to hit UK and US cinemas on July 15.
