Francis Lee has revealed a first look of his new film Ammonite starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.
The filmmaker – who directed and wrote the beautiful God’s Own Country – is set to release his latest movie Ammonite, which tells the story of real-life fossil hunter Mary Anning and the movie is set to show a lesbian love affair.
The new film faced backlash after a member of Anning’s family claimed that the lesbian storyline is ‘pure Hollywood’ and never happened, despite Anning being particularly secret about her personal life and never marrying.
But now, Lee has revealed a first look of Winslet and Ronan and revealed that God’s Own Country stars Alec Secareanu and Gemma Jones will also be starring.
The filmmaker wrote on Twitter: “Here’s the 1st still of my new film Ammonite.
“Joining Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are Fiona Shaw, James McCardle, Gemma Jones and one Alec Secareanu with cinematographer Stephane Fontaine.
“Thank you for all the incredible support.”
