Golden Globes 2022: Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez and Kristen Stewart among LGBTQ stars nominated
The awards ceremony is due to take place in Hollywood on 9 January.

LGBTQ icons, stars, and stories have been honoured with nominations for the 2022 Golden Globe awards, which are due to be held in Los Angeles in January.
Lady Gaga, Billy Porter, and Kristen Stewart are among the acting talent that has been celebrated (and are, we imagine, celebrating themselves) with a nomination. TV shows such as Pose and LGBTQ films are also represented in this year’s nominations.
The Golden Globes typically kick off awards season with many of the contenders in the film acting categories also picking Oscar nominations.
“Honoured”
In TV land, MJ Rodriguez and Billy Porter have received nods for playing Blanca and Pray Tell on the hit show, Pose, which came to a conclusion earlier this year after three seasons. This marks Rodriguez’s first Golden Globes nom, and follows on from her historic Emmy nomination for Pose (sadly she didn’t clinch the Emmy!)
Porter took to Instagram to celebrate saying he was “honoured” to be nominated and celebrated his co-star’s nomination.

Pose faces off against Lupin, The Morning Show, Squid Game, and Succession for Best TV series (Drama)
Up for Best Actress in a Film (Drama) are Lady Gaga, for her role as Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci, and Kristen Stewart for her work in Spencer, which documents Princess Diana’s story over a Christmas weekend in 1991. Gaga recently clarified: “I am a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community but I do not speak for them.”
They are joined in their category by Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), and Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos)
The openly queer Ariana Debose secured a place in the Best Supporting Actress in a film for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s remake of the classic musical, West Side Story, which is up for Best Film (Musical or Comedy)
Benedict Cumberbatch and Kodi Smit-McPhee are both up for acting gongs for playing queer cowboys in The Power of the Dog, which Attitude recently reviewed. Actress Kirsten Dunst is also nominated for her role in the film, which is also up for Best Film (Drama).
The animated film, Luca, is up for Best Animated Film feature. The film has been seen by many as a touching allegory of the LGBTQ experience. It’s joined by Flee, which tells the emotional story of a man moving from Afghanistan to Denmark as a refugee.
The Golden Globe Awards are due to take place on Sunday 9 January 2022.
