A young non-binary teenager has shared their grandmother’s loving response to their new name, and her loving words have promptly gone viral.

The Twitter user Cam (@m0d3rnl0ve) shared a screenshot of their text conversation with their relative earlier this week.

The 19-year-old Manchester-based Cam’s post has generated 132.9K likes, 3,965 retweets and almost 600 comments and counting.

“I love you”

The text from ‘Grandma’ reads: “At least you’ve chosen a good Scottish name! Now, I admit it won’t be rolling off the tongue after 20 years but I will try my best.

“But excuse me if I get it wrong at times.”

The text continued: “If that’s what you want then I’m sure you’ve made a considered opinion and choice. Hope you’re happy, that’s the main thing. You’re still my eldest grandchild and I love you so hugs and cuddles Cam.”

She then signed off with a “lol grandma”.

The tweet follows Drag Race UK Vs The World star Blu Hydrangea opening up about her gender identity on this week’s episode of the show.

In a werkroom chat, she said: “At one point I even thought I was trans. […] For a long time I just didn’t understand what was wrong with me, why I wasn’t happy with myself.”

In a confessional segment, Blu explained: “I wasn’t sure what gender I was. I wanted to be, maybe, trans […] A lot of things were floating about in my mind for those few years about my gender because I didn’t feel like a male or a woman.”
