Great British Bake Off's Tamal comes out as gay (and single!)

His delicious bakes might be able to fend off hunger, but Great British Bake Off contestant Tamal Ray has been leaving viewers thirsty all series, and now the 28-year-old trainee anesthetist has revealed that he’s not only gay, he’s single too.

The fan favourite, who viewers will see compete in the semi-final of the baking contest tomorrow night (September 30), has been bombarded with innuendo-laden tweets all series, but has broken female hearts everywhere after revealing that he is gay.

Asked by the Radio Times whether he was available, Tamal replied: “I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend,” adding “But I am single at the moment.”

The Manchester-based medic added that his relationship status wasn’t down to lack of interest, adding: “Yes, I have had a few offers on Twitter!”

Tamal is one of the favourites to win the coveted crown as The Great British Bake Off approaches next week’s grand final – and he certainly isn’t short on fans. What’s more, his latest announcement has only served to re-invigorate his extensive online fanbase.
