‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel confirmed for 2017

A sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is in the works, Marvel has confirmed.
Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, which launched in 2008, and stars Parks and Recreation‘s Chris Pratt alongside an impressive supporting cast that includes Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close and Bradley Cooper.
The film opens in UK cinemas this Thursday (July 31), but Guardians director James Gunn confirmed during a panel discussion at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego yesterday (July 26) that a sequel has already been given the green light and will arrive in cinemas on July 28, 2017.
Shortly after the announcement was made, Gunn tweeted to share the news with his followers, confirming that he will be back for the second film.

During the panel, it was also announced that actor Josh Brolin (Milk, No Country For Old Men) will take on the role of Marvel super-villain Thanos in the sequel.
“Josh brings all the weight and stature necessary for a character as iconic and significant as Thanos,” producer Kevin Feige said.”We’re incredibly excited for fans to see more of him as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.”
It’s expected that the main members of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast will return for the sequel, though this has yet to be confirmed.
