Happy birthday Kristen Wiig! Her 10 funniest moments
By Nick Bond
Comedy goddess Kristen Wiig turns 41 today, and to mark the occasion, we’re counting down 10 of her all-time funniest moments – because really, who needs an excuse to lose themselves in a Kristen Wiig YouTube spiral for an afternoon.
From SNL to Bridsemaids, from scene-stealing movie cameos to hilarious chat show appearances, Kristen is never less than hilarious. Here are 10 of our favourites:
10. Her scene-stealing role in Knocked Up
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/cvP7cnmxlLM” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Only her second film role, her small role in Knocked Up as a supremely passive aggressive mid-level manager at Allison’s (Katherine Heigl’s) TV job was the highlight of this 2007 film. A comedy star is born.
9. Gathy the stalker in Portlandia
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/tefgnX5GRig” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
No-one plays crazy like Kristen Wiig.
8. Kristen does Lana Del Rey
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/HTR-dS4lptc” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
A week after Lana’s infamous first live appearance on SNL, Kristen donned a ball gown to poke fun at the singer – but, much moreso, to poke fun at the the ensuing media circus.
7. The time she and Will Ferrell stole the show at the 2013 Golden Globes
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/XDvZrubaEwA” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
The pair came out to present the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, explaining that organisers had asked them to watch each of the five films in contention for the award – which they OF COURSE did, DUH. Best moment: Tommy Lee Jones’ now-infamous ‘Grumpy Cat Face’ at 3:36. Never gonna please everyone…
6. Surprise Party
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/v4R1yybhmHg” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Nobody loves a surprise party like SUE loves a surprise party.
5. Celebrity chef Paula Deen
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/J64v7K3_gz4″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
…who managed to appear on SNL despite being afflicted with The Sugars, or, as the Northerners put it, ‘Diabetes’.
4. Forget about Kristen Wiig, here’s an interview with Michael Jordan
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/J4-Tru0XREY” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Wow. WOW. The guy is a basketball legend!
3. Flirting expert Rebecca La Rue
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/WwfVaehcdfE” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Because when all other romantic signals fail, just throw your legs in the air.
2. The Longest Argument Ever
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/9jWY2Xg0N4I” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Wiig’s bratty argument with a precocious teen is one of the highlights of Bridesmaids, and sees her get fired from her shitty jewellery store job. But did you know that the pair originally traded barbs for a full ten hilariously filthy minutes?
1. THAT airplane scene
<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/D9sCsfoyN8o” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
Perfect from start to finish. To paraphrase Kristen in this scene, we are ready to PARTYYYYYY! Happy birthday, K-Wiig.
