Harry Hill is reportedly being lined up to host a new series of Stars in Their Eyes for ITV.
Stars in Their Eyes – which featured contestants impersonating their favourite pop idols – launched in 1990 and ran for 16 series until 2006, becoming a mainstay of ITV’s Saturday night schedule.
Comedian Harry Hill – who once took part in the celebrity edition of the show as a contestant, impersonating Morrissey – is now in line to front a revival, according to Forbes.
Previously, the show’s longest-running presenter was Matthew Kelly, who hosted the show between 1993 and 2004, and coined the iconic phrase: “Tonight Matthew, I’m going to be…” The late Leslie Crowther and Cat Deeley also helmed the show for several series, while Russ Abbot and Davina McCall put in stints as guest presenters.
“We are talking to Harry about projects, and we love working with him, but there are no confirmed programmes commissioned at this stage,” said an ITV spokesperson in response to the report.
During the show’s 16-year run, the most impersonated stars were Cher, Kylie Minogue, George Michael and Dolly Parton.
