Harry Potter and The Cursed Child: See the first cast pictures

By Samuel McManus

The cast of the new Harry Potter play The Cursed Child have today been unveiled in a series of character portraits.

Harry has grown up to become a bonafide daddy as it has been revealed that Jamie Parker will take over the role from Daniel Radcliffe, whose last appearance as Potter was in 2011’s The Deathly Hallows, Part 2.

Speaking of his new role, Jamie said: “It’s a unique gig in the sense that you have seven volumes of back story that you get to bring on with you. And we were all very keen to make sure that the first time you see Harry it just feels right.”

“He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right,” Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling commented.

Harry’s son isn’t bad on the eye either. 22-year-old Sam Clemmett has been unveiled as Albums Severus Potter, who will head to Hogwarts for the first time in the new play.

Rowling told: “There’s much I could say about Sam as Albus, but we’d be into spoiler territory so quickly I’ll just say we couldn’t have cast better.”

Poppy Miller has been cast Ginny Potter (née Weasley), Harry’s wife and Albus’ mother.

“I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother. Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her,” Rowling continued.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open at London’s Palace Theatre this July.
