Harry Styles reacts to ‘bring back manly men’ critic by posing in frilled shirt with a banana
"You can wear what you like. It doesn’t have to be X or Y" says Styles
Revenge is a dish best served cold for Harry Styles, who has waited a few weeks to respond to right-wing author Candance Owens’ criticism of him for wearing a dress.
Last month, the former One Direction star wore the garment in a cover shoot for Vogue, prompting Owens to tweet “bring back manly men.”
The commentator added at the time: “There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack.”
Yesterday, the ‘Golden’ singer finally addressed the ‘manly men’ comment – by directly quoting it in an Instagram caption, and sharing a photo of himself eating a banana and wearing a frilled shirt.

The shots were taken from a new shoot for Variety. In an accompanying interview, the former One Direction star and fashion icon reflected: “To not wear [something] because it’s females’ clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes. And I think what’s exciting about right now is you can wear what you like. It doesn’t have to be X or Y. Those lines are becoming more and more blurred.”

Author Owens has since responded to the star’s latest IG – because of course she has – saying: “When people try to tell me I don’t have influence, and then @Harry_Stylesdedicates an entire post to my tweet. I inspire global conversation. #BringBackManlyMen. Shots fired.”
