Heartstopper fans react to surprise Olivia Coleman role: ‘The best thing ever’

The Oscar winner plays Nick Nelson's mum in the show based on Alice Oseman's popular web comic.

Now that Heartstopper has dropped on Netflix, we can finally talk about the fact that the Olivia Coleman is a part of the cast.

Playing lead character Nick Nelson’s mum, Coleman makes her entrance in the LGBTQ show in the very first episode. 

Her role has been kept a closely guarded secret by producers, but now the whole world gets to enjoy Coleman as one of the best TV mums around. 

“THE BEST THING EVER”

One fan wrote on Twitter: “I’ve only watched the first episode but I’ve already laughed, cried, spat my tea out at Olivia Coleman (👸) #Heartstopper is AWESOME”

Another posted: “still can’t believe olivia coleman is in heartstopper”

“Olivia coleman turning up in #Heartstopper is my Andrew Garfield no way home moment,” someone added.

And someone else said: “only one episode of heartstopper in and i’m already so in love with the show 🥲 AND OLIVIA COLEMAN AS NICK’S MUM IS THE BEST THING EVER”

Heartstopper sees secondary school students Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson meet and discover an unexpected connection, which leads them both, and their friends, on a journey of discovery of who they are.

It stars Joe Locke and Kit Connor as Charlie and Nick. They are joined in the series by Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell as Tara Jones and Darcy Olsson.

As they appear on the cover of the Attitude May/June issue – out now – Joe, Kit, Yasmin, and Will all spoke of how excited they were for fans to see the show, which started life as a popular webcomic by Alice Oseman.

Kit described being in the show, which showcases positive and uplifting LGBTQ stories, as a “real honour” adding, “That’s an honour that I am so grateful to have been given. I don’t think I’ll ever really forget that.”
