Heartstopper: First look at Netflix adaptation of LGBTQ graphic novel

Netflix has given us our first look at its eagerly anticipated TV adaptation of Alice Oseman’s beloved LGBTQ graphic novel series Heartstopper.

Set to premiere on the streaming service in Spring 2022, Heartstopper tells the story of classmates Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor respectively.

After the two meet at secondary school, they quickly discover there’s more to their unlikely friendship than at first appears. As an unexpected romance blossoms, the pair go on a journey of self-discovery and understanding of their identities.

Locke and Connor will be supported by Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell as Tara Jones and Darcy Olsson, as well as Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Sebastian Croft, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood.

Heartstopper, which began life as a web comic in 2016, was first announced last year, with original author Alice Oseman adapt the eight episodes herself and Euros Lyn, who has worked on Doctor Who, serving as director.

Speaking at the time, Alexi Wheeler, Director of Kids & Family Content for the streaming service, said: “I am so proud to be championing Charlie and Nick’s story. We care deeply that all young people see themselves reflected in our content, and are hopeful that many people, whatever their age or identity, will see themselves in this bold and uplifting series.”
