Heartstopper’s Kit Connor joins cast of A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow

Heartstopper star Kit Connor has joined the cast of the film adaption of Laura Taylor Namey’s A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.
The Latinx YA novel tells the story of Lila Reyes who moves from her grandmother’s Abuela Cuban bakery in Miami to her Aunt’s inn in Winchester, London after the death of her Abuela.
Deadline reports, “It’s there that she falls in love with the quaint British countryside, fusion cooking and a charming British tea shop clerk…ultimately using food as a way to bridge two cultures and heal her heart.”
Connor is joined in the cast by Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin star Maia Reficco, and La Reina del Sur‘s Kate del Castillo. None of the actor’s roles have been revealed just yet, Deadline also reports adding production has officially launched in Yorkshire.
Documentarist Katherine Fairfax Wright makes her feature film debut as director while Khaila Amazan and Savion Einstein serve as screenwriters. Matt Kaplan will produce for ACE Entertainment.
In addition to his stand-out role as Nick Nelson in Heartstopper, Connor has also starred in the BBC’s His Dark Materials adaptation, as well as the Sir Elton John biopic, Rocketman alongside Taron Egerton.
Connor is the latest of the Heartstopper cast to announce their successive projects to the summer stomper that was based on Alice Oseman’s YA webcomic.
Joe Locke and Will Gao, who play Charlie Spring and Tao Xu respectively, can currently be seen in The Trials at the Donmar Warehouse.
Meanwhile, Yasmin Finney, who plays Elle Argent, will be seen next year in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary series as Rose, a trans character alongside Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Neil Patrick Harris as a villain, and returning stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate.
It was also announced in May that Heartstopper had been renewed by Netflix for seasons two and three, so we’ll be seeing the crew back together before too long!
