Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney joins Doctor Who ahead of 60th anniversary
Yasmin, who plays Elle Argent in Heartstopper, will be playing a character called Rose in the 60th anniversary series of Doctor Who.

Heartstopper star, Yasmin Finney, is heading out of this world with her next role as she joins the 60th anniversary series of Doctor Who.
The BBC made the announcement on Monday (16 May) that Yasmin will be playing a character called Rose. According to a statement, the young actress is already filming scenes due to air in 2023.
Yasmin, who plays Elle Argent in Heartstopper, said: “If anyone would have told 8-year-old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them.”
“I cannot wait to begin this journey”
Continuing she said: “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell [T. Davies], has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready.”

Returning showrunner, Russell T Davies, added: “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set.
“We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”

The announcement comes swiftly on the heels of the announcement that former Doctor Who stars David Tennant, who played the iconic Time Lord, and Catherine Tate, who played his assistant, Donna, will be returning for the 2023 series.
Both starred in the series from 2005 to 2010.
On the casting announcement, Davies said: “They’re back! And it looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening?
“Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”
Earlier this month it was revealed that Sex Education‘s Ncuti Gatwa would be taking on the role of the Time Lord following Jodie Whittaker’s departure.
The BBC announced last September that Davies, who’s been away from the show for 12 years, is returning to help the show prepare for its 60th anniversary.
Picking the show up in 2005, Davies helped turn it into the global phenomenon it has become. Since then, there have been several incarnations of the regenerating Time Lord from Christopher Eccleston to the current Doctor played by Jodie Whitaker.
