‘Heterosexual Pride Day’ trends on Twitter – LGBT people collectively facepalm

By Fabio Crispim

If you didn’t know already, today is being heralded by certain narrow-minded Twitter users as Heterosexual Pride Day, and naturally it’s gone down like a lead balloon amongst the LGBT community.

As #HeterosexualPrideDay trended, no one could resist offer their two cents on this most ridiculous of suggestions, which comes less than three weeks after this month’s abhorrent anti-gay attack on an Orlando gay club, which left 49 people dead.

One user wrote: “Heterosexual Pride Day: A day where the non-judged, non-discriminated, non-marginalised celebrate that very privilege.”

Another added: “That heterosexual pride day hashtag is offensive on so many levels. Sorry I didn’t know you had to hide being straight for so many years.”

Basically, you get the gist.

It’d be unfair to say everyone agreed, however.

“Am I the only one who thinks it’s hypocritical that everyone is hating on the #HeterosexualPrideDay, and want tolerance to gay Pride Day?” one user wrote.

Well, we think that’s certainly enough internet for one day…
